EN 12999:2020 – The new paradigm of safety.

15 April 2023 is the date that marks the entry into force of the new standard EN 12999:2020.
Its application significantly increases the safety of our truck cranes, effectively “doubling” the efficiency of the sensor technology already in place. PM aims to ensure the ultimate in safety for operators and users, even going beyond current regulations.
For this reason, PM wasted no time in adapting all of its hydraulic and electronic machines to the new standard by providing a back-up sensor for all of the crane’s control sensors that checks the correctness of the transmitted information. The consistency of the information achieved as a result offers a great advantage in terms of stability, as it eliminates the risk of error in case of anomalies that could lead to incorrect manoeuvres in unplanned handling areas.
EN 12999:2020 is for everyone’s benefit.
Better safety means greater efficiency.
This new technical standard is aimed at companies that design and manufacture truck cranes and applies to all machines intended for sale or use in the European Union and countries that accept the CE standard. Application of the standard does not involve any changes to how the outfitter mounts the crane on the vehicle or to calibration of the machine; and thanks to PM’s improvements to the equipment, the time required to perform installation and maintenance remains the same as before.
All PM cranes which entered production after 15 April 2023 will fully comply with this standard, and an EC Certificate of Conformity is issued upon delivery of the crane (the date on the certificate serves as proof). This means that the electrical and electronic system of the manufactured machines meets the expected safety requirements and will therefore be, at a minimum, in Category 2 (Cat. 2) according to EN13849-1:2015.
The reliability of the advanced technologies developed by PM and the timely implementation of the new regulations bring our cranes to a level of safety and efficiency that puts us in a leading position in the European market which we are proud to share with our customers.
